Granja La Villa – cheese dairy and farm

Fuerteventura is well known for the delicious goat cheese. The Majorero cheese forms part of the diet of the habitants nearly every day. For visitants and others the cheese is something very special. Who spends his holiday on Fuerteventura, can try and buy this cheese. If you are interested in the elaboration of the special cheese you can visit some milk dairy’s and special farms.

Such kind of farms are situated near Betancuria. This village is placed in the middle of the isle and it’s got many places of interest and historic buildings to visit. If you drive from Betancuria in direction to Antigua you find a road on the left side opposite of a Franciscan Monastery on the TF 415 road.
If you follow that road about 100 meters you arrive at a farm called Granja La Villa. On the farm you can see goats, sheeps and other animals such as donkeys.

If you want to visit this farm and dairy you have to ring the bell next to the door, where is written: “timbre”. The family who is working at the farm is happy to welcoming you and showing you the whole farm. Here you can see lots of different kinds of cheese, cactus marmalade, canarian mojo sauces, almogrotte cheese and other specialties. One of the highlights is a goats milk liquor.

You can visit the cots of the goats and the chamber of milking, the cheese dairy and the shop. You can taste different products and buy them here. Granja La Villa is sending their products by post to countries like Austria and Germany. This sending service is very comfortable and easy to handle.

The cheese dairy is producing overall goats- and sheep milk cheese. The special thing about it are the crust of gofio, paprika powder, olive oil and others. You can choose between half-mature, mature and fresh cheese.
